Noah Evans is a graphic artist originally from Oakhurst California, a mountain community just outside Yosemite Valley. With half of his family being native Ohlone and the other half Oklahoma dust bowlers, Noah was raised with an acute awareness of how one’s land defines generational status and security. As a lover of history, the majority of his work attempts to add a layer of nuance to familiar North American narratives. He believes story-driven, visual learning is the quickest way to drive social change.
DON’T FENCE ME IN
It is seldom recognized in California how much the natural environment influences society. The dominant conversation concerning the environment is fixated solely on the loss of it. Exhausted terms like sustainability rarely concede the modern and historical incentives that called for it to begin with. (Not to mention the social repercussions of action and non-action alike). The current partition of counties and districts poorly represents the actual regional needs caused by the changing landscape and provides an even less realistic path to address those needs efficiently. This project aims to show a more nuanced and integrated view of the land and our often problematic relationship with it. Noah hopes that it will inspire further conversation and research by those looking to better understand their home and secure its future in earnest.
